LET'S TALK ABOUT...

HOW I GOT INTO UX AND DESIGN

  • My first forays into design were in the latter half of high school, during which I learned how to use programs such as Photoshop and web design languages such as HTML and CSS.

  • Later, I enrolled in Georgia Tech's Computational Media program, where I undertook many projects in designing for print and digital media.

  • It wasn't until my first internship in 2017 that I truly decided that this was something I wanted to do with my life, in which I became fully involved in the UX design process.

MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

  • One of my professors at Georgia Tech was perhaps my biggest critic, often having me make ten versions of a print, posting them on the wall, and tearing down which ones didn't work.

  • However, she entrenched in me a philosophy of goal-focused design, in which the designer seeks to answer two questions: "What is the user's goal?" and "How do we get them there?"

  • I am also of the belief that there is no such thing as a "solo" UXer or designer, as my tenure at GE taught me the value of cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders.

CURLING, MY UNEXPECTED HOBBY

  • Shortly after the 2018 Olympics, I decided to take a class hosted by the Atlanta Curling Club, and I was immediately hooked.

  • Since early 2019, I've been regularly involved with the club in recreational league play. Did you know that the winning team is the one who buys the first round of drinks after a match?

  • While many of my club members travel for tournaments called bonspiels, I will be competing in my first official bonspiel later this year.

DRUMMING, A PASSION REKINDLED

  • When I was nine, my parents bought me my first drum kit. I spent hours behind it in my early adolescent years playing with my favorite songs.

  • By high school, I grew bored or busy with other passions, so I sold it in tenth grade. However, I would often spend time air-drumming or with hand drums.

  • Over the last year, recent inspirations from indie bands I follow, such as Red Vox, have inspired me to buy a new kit (this time an electric one) and play covers of songs with friends.

TABLETOP GAMES AND BOARD GAMES

  • During college, I was one of those geeks who played Dungeons and Dragons with friends instead of partying on weekends. The story and character writing aspects drew me in and continue to pique my interest to this day.

  • Board games, in general, are another massive hobby of mine. I find that they're a great icebreaker with new friends. In fact, during my study abroad in Copenhagen, my favorite place to go on weekends was a board game cafe where I would meet new people.

CUISINE AND COOKING

  • I love to cook. Plain and simple. I love cooking for myself, and I especially love cooking for other people. Whether finding new recipes or experimenting, I love to do it.

  • During the early months of the pandemic, one of my fixations was finding recipes for ramen. The various components, from the aroma oils to the tare, require different prep methods.

  • I hope to create an app to facilitate sharing recipes with others like myself, everyday people with a passion for cuisine but without the clout of famous TikTokers or celebrity chefs.
